עֶבֶד
`ebed "servant, slave" the distinction between "servant"
and "slave" was less clear in ancient society, where both lived in the
master's house as part of his family. In Amos the word occurs only
as part of the phrase "his servants the prophets" (3:7)
this designation is especially common in the stories of northern prophets (1 Kings 14:18;
2 Kings 9:7; 14:25;
17:13, 23
cf. 2 Kings 21:10; 24:2)
and the book of Jeremiah (7:25;
25:4; 26:5;
29:19; 35:15;
44:4) the expression also
occurs in Ezra 9:11; Daniel
9:6, 10
and Zechariah 1:6.
