chorep
"harvest/winter" is used several times, as it is in Amos 3:15,
with qayits "summer/summer fruit" (Gen 8:22;
Ps 74:17; Is 18:6;
Zech 14:8). Both words
refer to, both a season,
and to the agricultural activities associated with it. Jer 36:22
gives us an indication of the time of year meant by chorep for it
reads:
"the king was sitting in his chorep house
(it was the ninth month),
and there was a fire burning in the brazier before him."
The ninth month (chisleb) ran from mid-November into December, the month
before (Marchesvan or Bul) was the season of plowing (an activity
associated with chorep). From this we can deduce the rendering "winter
house" as an approximation for "chorep house" here and
in Am 3:15.
