מָקוֹם maqom "place" a very vague and general word. According to the cotext it can be rendered by: place, land, region etc. or station (e.g. of a soldier), place at banquet; sleeping-place, of a last "resting-place", and even of places or spots on the body.

In Amos 8:3 כָל־מָקוֹם is "crywhere", while in 4:6 something like "settlements" would be needed in English to give the effect of the parallelism with "cities".
