שְׁאֵרִית she'rit "remains, left-overs or remnant" in Amos after God's punishment: of enemies 1:8; 9:12 or of Israel 5:15. There is little in Amos to suggest the notion of a righteous or saving remnant such as may develop later in Isaiah's thought. In Amos the word seems to focus on how few are those left "just the crumbs".
