4Q166 a fragment of commentary on Hosea in the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit
Among the texts found, between 1947 and 1960, at
Kirbet Qumran (the Dead Sea Scrolls) were a number of commentaries
explaining biblical texts. The comments tell us much about the
views of the sect who produced the scrolls. Commentaries, or parts
of commentaries, have been found on several prophets:
The best known of these is on Habakkuk from Cave One. There is however no trace of comment on Amos. The texts date from the end of the third century BCE to 70AD.
