6 Thus
says Adonai:
After three rebellions
by Israel, four...
I will not call
it back;
because they sell
the righteous for
silver,
and the needy for
the sake of a pair of sandals-
7 who lust
for gain even though poor
people's heads
are in the dust of the
land,
and pushing
aside the humble from the
path;
father
and son go to the same servant-girl,
so
that my holy reputation is defiled;
8 and on clothing
taken as security,
they spread out
beside every altar;
and the wine
of those they fined,
they drink
in the house of their
God.
9 Yet
I destroyed the Amorite
before them,
tall
as cedars,
and strong
as oaks;
I destroyed
them, fruit above,
and roots
below.
10 I
brought you out of the land of Egypt,
and I led
you in the wilderness,
for forty years,
to take possession
the Amorite's land.
11 I appointed
some of your children as
prophets
and some of your youths
as Nazirites.
Isn't
it indeed so, people
of Israel?
Adonai's oracle.
12 But you gave the Nazirites
wine to drink,
and prophets
you ordered,
"You must not
prophesy!"
13 Look! I
am creaking
beneath
you,
like a cart full
of straw
creaks.
14 Flight
shall perish before the speedy,
and the strong
will not confirm their
strength,
nor the hero
save his life;
15 those
who hold bows
will not stand,
and speedy
feet will not save,
nor those
who ride horses
save their lives;
16 even the firm
hearted of the heroes
will flee
naked in that day,
Adonai's oracle.

1 Hear this message
that Adonai has
spoken against you,
children
of Israel, against
the whole
family that I
brought
out of the land of
Egypt:
2 "Only
you do I know of all the families
of the earth;
therefore
I will punish you for all your guilt."

3 Do two walk together unless they are agreed?
4 Does a lion growl
in the bush
but tears at
nothing?
Does a killer lion
give voice
in its shelter
unless it has caught?
5 Does a bird
fall to a trap on the ground,
with nothing as bait for it?
Does a trap spring
up from the soil,
and it has not caught
something?
6 Is a trumpet
blown in a city,
and the people do not
quake?
Does disaster happen
to a city,
and Adonai
has not done it?
7 For my Lord
Adonai does
nothing,
without revealing
his plan
to his servants the prophets.
8 The lion
has roared;
who
does not fear?
My Lord Adonai
has spoken;
who
will not prophesy?

9 Proclaim it
to the citadels
in Ashdod,
and to
the citadels in the land
of Egypt,
say,
"Assemble on the hills
of Samaria,
and see: great
confusion there,
oppression among
them."
10 They do not know
how to do right,
(Adonai's
oracle)
those who store up violence
and destruction in
their citadels.
11 Therefore
thus says my Lord Adonai:
An enemy will surround the land,
and strip
you of your strongholds;
and your citadels
will be plundered.

13 Hear, and
bear witness against Jacob's
house.
Oracle of
my Lord Adonai,
the God of armies.
14 For
on the day I punish
Israel for
its rebellions,
I will punish
the altars of Bethel,
the horns of the altar
shall be cut
off
and fall
to the ground.
15 I will strike
both winter
house and summer
house;
and the houses of ivory will
perish,
and the many
houses
will be swept
away.
Adonai's
oracle.
1 Hear
this message, Bashan
cows
who are on Mount Samaria,
oppressors
of the poor,
crushers
of the needy,
who say
to their husbands,
"Bring and we'll drink!"
2 My Lord Adonai
has sworn by his holiness:
So,
look!
Days are coming
upon you,
when they shall take
you away with hooks,
and your rear
guard with fish-hooks.
3 Through gaps [in the wall] you will leave,
each
one straight
ahead;
and be thrown out towards Harmon.
Adonai's
oracle.
