25 Did you
bring to me sacrifices
and offerings
the forty
years in the wilderness,
house
of Israel?
26 But you will take
up Sikkuth,
your king,
and Kiyun, your idol,
your star-gods,
which you made for yourselves;
27 I will send
you into exile beyond Damascus,
says Adonai, God of armies
is his name.

1 Alas,
comfortable
in Zion,
and secure on Mount Samaria,
notables
of the first
of nations,
they come
to them in Israel's house.
2 Cross
over to Calneh, and see;
from there
go to great Hamath;
then go down to Philistine
Gath.
Are you better
than these kingdoms?
Or is their territory
greater
than your territory?
3 Pushing
away the evil day,
you bring near the reign
of violence.

4 Lying on
ivory
couches,
sprawling on
their beds,
eating
the best lambs
from the flock,
and calves
from the
fattening-pen;
5 singing
to the sound
of the guitar,
and like David inventing musical instruments for themselves;
6 drinking
wine from basins,
they will anoint themselves with the finest
oils,
but they are not troubled by
the ruin of Joseph!
7 Therefore now they
will be the first
of the exiles,
and the feasting of the sprawlers will end.

8 My Lord
Adonai has sworn by himself
(Oracle of Adonai,
the God
of armies):
I loathe
the pride of Jacob
its citadels
I hate;
and I will deliver up the city
and all that is in it.
9 It will happen if ten people are left in one house, they shall die.
10 A relative
comes to anoint and take
the bones out of the
house, and says to someone in the innermost part of the house,
"Is anyone else with you?"
the
answer will come,
"No one."
Then he'll say,
"Hush!
No mentioning
Adonai's name."
11So,
look, Adonai
commands,
He strikes
the great
house - fragments,
and the little
house - rubble.

12 Do horses run on crags?
Does one plow
the sea with an ox?
But
you have turned
justice into poison
and the fruit
of righteousness
into wormwood-

13 Joyful
about nothing/Lo-debar,
saying,
"Have we
not by our own strength
taken
Karnaim
for ourselves?"
14 So,
look! I am raising
up against you,
house
of Israel,
(Oracle of Adonai,
the God
of armies)
a nation
and they will oppress
you from Lebo-hamath to the
Wadi
Arabah.
1 This is what my Lord Adonai showed me. Look!
He was forming locusts just as the late sowing began to grow (that is the late sowing following the king's mowings).
2 Suppose
they finished
eating the foliage
of the land! So I said,
"My Lord Adonai,
please forgive!
How
can Jacob survive? For he is so small!"
3 Adonai
took pity
because of this;
"It shall not be,"
said Adonai.
