13 Joyful
about nothing/Lo-debar,
saying,
"Have we
not by our own strength
taken
Karnaim
for ourselves?"
14 So,
look! I am raising
up against you,
house
of Israel,
(Oracle of Adonai,
the God
of armies)
a nation
and they will oppress
you from Lebo-hamath
to the Wadi
Arabah.

1 This is what my Lord Adonai showed me. Look!
He was forming locusts just as the late sowing began to grow (that is the late sowing following the king's mowings).
2 Suppose
they finished eating
the foliage of the land!
So I said,
"My Lord Adonai,
please forgive!
How
can Jacob survive? For he is so small!"
3 Adonai
took pity
because of this;
"It shall not be,"
said Adonai.

4 This is what my Lord Adonai showed me. Look!
My Lord
Adonai
was calling
for a judgment
by fire,
and it had
eaten the great
deep and it was eating the promised land {allotted portion}.
5 Then I said,
"My Lord
Adonai, please stop!
How
can Jacob survive? For he is so small!"
6 Adonai
took pity
because of this;
"This also
shall not be,"
said my Lord Adonai.

7 This is what he showed me. Look!
My
lord was standing
beside a plastered wall,
with tin
in his hand.
8 And Adonai
said to
me,
"What do you see, Amos?"
And I said,
"Tin"
Then my lord said,
"See,
I am putting
grief
in the middle of my people
Israel;
I
will not again pass
them by.
9 Isaac's
high places will be
made desolate,
and Israel's sanctuaries
ruined,
and I will rise
against Jeroboam's
house with the sword."

detail v.10
10 Amaziah, priest of Bethel,
sent to Jeroboam,
King of Israel,
saying:
"Amos has conspired against
you in the
heart of the house
of Israel; the land
is not able to support all his words.
11 For this is what Amos
says:
`Jeroboam shall
die by the sword,
and Israel
will surely go into exile
from its land.'"
12 And Amaziah said
to Amos,
"Seer,
go, run away [back] to the land
of Judah,
eat
your bread there,
and there act the
prophet;
13 but never
again prophesy
in Bethel, for
it is the king's sanctuary,
and a royal
temple."
14 Then Amos answered
Amaziah,
"I am no prophet,
I am no member of the
prophet's guild;
but
I am a herdsman,
and prepare
sycamore [feed],
15 and Adonai
took
me when I was following
the flock,
and Adonai said
to me,
'Go,
prophesy to my people
Israel!'
16 "So, now, hear
Adonai's message. You
say,
`Do not prophesy
against Israel, and do not preach
against the house
of Isaac.'
17 Therefore
this is what
Adonai says:
`Your wife shall whore
in the city!
Your sons
and your daughters shall
fall by the sword,
and your land
shared out by measure
[by the victors].
You yourself
shall die in
an impure
land,
and Israel will surely go
into exile far from her land.' "
1 This is
what my Lord
Adonai showed me. Look!
a basket of fruit from summer's end.
2 He said,
"What
do you see, Amos?"
And I said,
"A basket of fruit from summer's end."
Then Adonai
said to
me,
"The end
is coming for my people
Israel;
I
will not again pass
them by.
